Art Competition for children

Catching Lives Arts Project

This summer we are running an arts competition to celebrate both 10 years of Catching Lives working with the homeless in Canterbury and East Kent, and also World Homeless Day on the 10th October 2020 which aims to raise awareness of homelessness and its impact on our local community.

The competition is for children of primary school age.

What you need to do

Below you will find a template of our hands logo. We are asking people to use this logo to create a poster.

The theme of the poster is ‘Helping the Homeless’. You can colour-in the logo and use the whole page around it, using pens, paints or collage to decorate the poster; you could feature pictures of people, animals, anything you like – we want you to use your imagination and be as creative as you can!.

(If you are struggling to print the image please see below for an email address to request a print friendly file of the logo!).

How will entries be used?
We will use our favourite 12 designs – as judged by our panel – to create a Catching Lives 2021 calendar.
All the entries will also be used by artist Zo Defferary, with the help of Catching Lives clients, to create a large art installation for the Canterbury Festival which takes place from 17th – 31st October.

Prize
The winning entry will feature on the front of the calendar and receive a £100 Amazon voucherThere will be two runners-up prizes of £50 and £25 Amazon vouchers.

How to submit entries

Or posted to: Competition, Catching Lives, Open Centre, Station Road East, Canterbury, CT1 2RB

Please include your first name and age, and make sure you speak to a parent or guardian, so they can include some form of contact details with the entry (so we can contact the winners!).

Entries must be received by 20th September 2020.
Winners will be announced on 1st October 2020.

As you can imagine, the impact of Covid-19 is unfortunately likely to lead to many people becoming homeless, for example through loss of jobs, and the impact on people’s mental health. It is therefore more important than ever that we work with our local community to do all we can to try and end the harm that homelessness has on individuals, families and the community.
