We can now confirm that this year’s shelter will be operating from Monday 2nd December 2013 through to Friday 28th February 2014 and all 7 shelter venues have confirmed their participation. The Shelter Coordinator for this year will be Jon Limebury, who did such a super job for us last year. To ensure that he has the support he needs we have taken on a Deputy Coordinator, Danni Thompson, who worked with us as a Project Worker for the shelter last year.
To provide the professional supervision that the Canterbury Community Shelter requires we are recruiting part-time Project Workers, the interviews for which are being held next week.
Volunteer with us on this year’s shelter
To help the shelter run smoothly, we also require a strong team of volunteers to carry out a variety of evening roles:
- Kitchen volunteers to cook supper for the shelter guests at the Open Centre.
- Evening volunteers to engage with the guests, play board games, make tea etc at the shelter venues.
- Overnight volunteers (non-waking) to support the Project Workers at the venues.
- Volunteers with their own transport to take bedding to and from the venues (mornings and evenings).
We will be holding two volunteer induction sessions for the winter shelter on Thursday 21st Nov between 2pm and 4pm, and Saturday 23rd Nov between 10am and 12pm. Both sessions will be held at Canterbury Open Centre, 13 Station Road East, Canterbury, Kent, CT1 2RB. If you are interested in volunteering with us during this year’s shelter, please attend one of the above sessions, and bring with you two of the following forms of ID: birth certificate, passport, utility bill, driving licence.
