We would like to say a huge thank you to Steven Clark who has raised an amazing £490 for Catching Lives and Pilgrims Hospices through completing a 100 mile cycle ride.
Donations can still be given on Steven’s Virgin Money Giving page here
“I began at 07:48 at the Olympic Park and headed straight down the A12 onto Commercial Road, and then on across central London. All the roads are shut down to traffic and mostly spacious and pretty flat so I was averaging about 20mph, faster than I was expecting for me but it seemed so easy, but I was worried I would pay for it later on!
Heading toward West Horsley I had my first hitch, with two accidents happening ahead of me in quick succession. We had to stand and wait for a while at each incident until we were allowed to walk past and get back on our bikes (luckily, it didn’t look to serious in both cases, just cuts and bruises).
Towards the end I thought I had lost my chance to go under 6 hours but I pushed myself as hard as I could over those last 10 miles to the finish in the Mall (which was a welcome sight!) and just managed it with a time of 5:55! So pleased with the time and to get off the bike! Hobbled through the exit where they hang a huge medal around your neck. Of course the minute you stop it starts to feel very warm!
It was a great day out and I would recommend it to anyone keen on cycling…….just make sure you chose a year when the weather is kind!”
Thank you again to Steven for supporting our charity through this impressive challenge.
