We are looking for qualified GP nurses and doctors (however applications from other qualified medical professionals can also be discussed) who would be willing to volunteer their time and skills to help with the delivery of an on-site medical service for homeless individuals in Canterbury.
About the service
-We operate a fitted medical room at our daycentre in Canterbury and currently have two volunteer nurses and a volunteer podiatrist who hold drop-ins, however we are looking to increase our number of medical volunteers in order to expand the service to cover more days of the week. Our day centre is open 9-2pm, 7 days a week.
-Many of our clients have ongoing health issues, brought on due to sleeping rough, and this service is invaluable as it allows us to identify issues through health assessments and deal with them quickly, such as through dressing of wounds, providing ongoing support and advice, and efficiently signposting to other services when needed.
-In 2016, 97 different clients made use of this service, totalling 255 medical appointments.
-We require that anyone who applies is qualified in some capacity (e.g. RGN).
-As this role will involve discussing personal and sensitive health related matters, any applicants must adhere to our policies and procedures, including our confidentiality policies, and will need to remain professional and non-judgemental at all times. They will also need to be patient and understanding of the complex needs that many of our clients have, including those around physical health, mental health and substance misuse.
Please contact Graeme for more details, for example if you would like to come and see the service firsthand-
