A building society stepped in recently when our cooker and oven broke down and we were struggling to replace them. The Yorkshire Building Society, which had been holding collections for us in their Canterbury branch, heard about our difficulty and provided over £1000 so that we could buy a new catering grade cooker. The money was donated through the Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation, which is supported by staff and members.
CatchingLives’ Service Manager, Terry Gore said, “Providing hot meals for the homeless and vulnerably housed of Canterbury is a key part of what we do; it gets people into our Canterbury Open Centre and enables us to help them find solutions to any problems that they may have. We’re extremely grateful to them for stepping in when they heard about the problem. We can’t thank them enough for turning a bad situation into a good one.”
YBS Canterbury branch manager, Nick Austin, said, “As a society we’re committed to helping local good causes, so when we heard that CatchingLives were in need of an oven to be able to continue their good service to the homeless, we did what we could to support them.”
