We are delighted to announce that Catching Lives Books has won the award of ‘Best Bookshop in Kent, voted for by the general public in the Muddy Stilettos Awards. Muddy Stilettos aims to bring the lowdown on the very best restaurants, boutiques, interiors, day trips and events in the local area.
Catching Lives Bookshop is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and has been selling second hand books to raise money for Catching Lives for more than fifteen years. The Bookshop moved to its new home in the Crooked House with its iconic wonky blue door, at 28 Palace Street in 2014 and business has been booming ever since. The bookshop is popular with tourists as well as those who live and work in the city.
With a team of thirty volunteers made up of people of all ages and backgrounds, we process donations of books from the public and sell them at very reasonable prices. We have sections in the shop on Fiction, History, Science, Biography and many other subjects including Vintage books, all in good condition.
Here is what some of our volunteers had to say about winning this award-
“Working at Catching Lives book shop is always fun! We never know what kind of books will come in and everyday we meet interesting people from all over the world. They all love our quirky, wonky shop, our friendly staff and of course the extensive and varied collection of books on our shelves, all at bargain prices”- Janey
“I am so thrilled that we have won the Muddy Stilettos award!! I have volunteered at the bookshop for 3 years and love it as the volunteers are a great team and we get such interesting people coming in to browse, chat…and buy our super books”- Clare
“It’s so encouraging that a small shop run entirely by volunteers to support a local charity can win such an accolade. It’s a great team!”- Caroline
