We’re excited to be going on the road from Wednesday 9th June, to two different locations around Kent on a weekly basis. Our wonderful volunteers will continue to run the day centre, providing our normal facilities and in addition, we will be taking a minibus to Whitstable on a Wednesday and Herne Bay on a Friday.
The Fixed-Point Outreach Bus will provide a range of services to anyone who is homeless, rough sleeping or vulnerably housed. Services include help with making a homeless application, to ensure the local council assess the person’s situation and provides emergency housing and rent deposits as needed. We can also help with claiming benefits and registering with a GP. We can put people in touch with other services and housing referrals. In addition, we will be providing hot & cold drinks, items of clothing, small emergency food parcels and art and craft activities to take away. We also have mental health support (available on certain days) with a trained mental health specialist.
Canterbury City Council have kindly supported our plan to offer this additional help to more people in Kent, by allowing us to use Gorrell Tank Car Park in Whitstable on Wednesdays between 11am and 1pm and The Neptune Car Park in Herne Bay on Fridays between 11am and 1pm. If you know of someone who could benefit from our services and would like more information, please contact our day centre on 01227 464904.
If you run a business in Herne Bay or Whitstable and could put up a poster or have some flyers on your shop counter to help promote our Outreach project, we would very much appreciate it. Please give us a call and we’ll drop some off to you on one of our outreach days. Our poster is available to download here:
