With Catching Lives' long-term volunteer, chef David Sworder, taking a well-earned sabbatical from cookery classes, we've been welcoming new faces into our kitchen. Thanks to funding from Sainsbury’s, talented local chefs have brought their skills, enthusiasm and knowledge to sessions with people experiencing homelessness, making sure everyone can get involved.
Our clients have been appreciated the chance to learn from Holly Batterbee of Samphire in Whitstable, Will Burnett from Fern and Farrow in Bishopsbourne, Julian D Brown from Cliftonville Dining Room in Margate, and Michael and Freya of The Pig in Bridge.
The workshops have been full of great food, new skills, and a real sense of community. We look forward to welcoming the chefs again soon and to having David back with us after his break.

Julian D Brown, Chef Patron, Cliftonville Dining Room, Margate, said: “I’ve had the absolute pleasure of cooking and sharing knowledge with the Catching Lives community on a couple of occasions in the last few months. It’s been extremely fulfilling to create some positive memories with a diverse range of fascinating, entertaining and wholly charismatic individuals. They and the staff have made me feel very welcome and the experience has been so nourishing in all ways. I welcome the invitation back.”
