Catching Lives day centre
Catching Lives has been awarded a grant to explore ways to improve its day centre in Station Road East.
The money is part of £100,000 capacity development funding from the Albert Hunt Trust and managed by Homeless Link being split between seven homeless charities.
Tasmin Maitland, Chief Executive of Catching Lives, said: “I'm excited that Catching Lives has been awarded a Capital Capacity grant by Homeless Link and the Albert Hunt Trust.
“Our day centre is in a former warehouse and it's not the most inviting environment, so we'll be working with Lee Evans Partnership LLP to explore how the space could be more psychologically- and trauma-informed, improving the experience of everyone who comes here.”
The grants aim to improve charities’ access to capital funding after learning from the Homelessness Winter Transformation Fund showed smaller organisations were less likely to be successful.
The other charities receiving grants include Refettorio Felix at St Cuthbert’s Centre, 999 Club, Shiloh Rotherham, Hope at Home, Ella’s, and Barnabus Manchester.
Jane Deller Ray, Operations Manager at The Albert Hunt Trust said: “As a long term core funder of charities working with the homeless, the trustees sought guidance from Homeless Link to explore alternative funding opportunities that could potentially lead to transformative change.
“Smaller organisations with aspirations of capital development had been identified by Homeless Link and the trustees agreed to provide a fund to help develop these plans. We look forward to seeing what work is done with these grants.
Rick Henderson, CEO of Homeless Link said: “This is a fund that seeks to level the playing field for smaller charities accessing capital funding. We’re looking forward to the learning that comes from this fund and are grateful to the Albert Hunt Trust for their support.”
