A window into homelessness at Canterbury Festival
This is your October update from Catching Lives. From now until Saturday 4 November, you can view artwork from our clients as part of Canterbury Festival Open House. Painted shoeboxes exploring the themes of refuge, shelter and homelessness can be viewed in the windows of Rock Paper Scissors in Stour Street and Teastones in Sun Street. Read more.
Harvest Festival
A big thank you to everyone, including churches, schools and community groups, who supported us this Harvest Festival season. It’s great to see our larder shelves looking healthier thanks to your generous donations. It really has been a welcome boost as the weather turns. We rely on your donations to keep our vital services for the homeless running 365 days of the year.

Bathroom renovations are underway
Washing facilities are an essential part of our day centre provision. People have told us that, after a night on the streets, getting a shower and a change of clothes "makes you feel human again." As you can see from these 'before' photos, our showers and toilets had got into a really poor condition over the years, so work is now underway to renovate this whole area of the Centre. We remain open, but with limited facilities, during the building works and expect to be fully equipped ready for winter. You can donate to Catching Lives here.
Activities Latest
It’s been a busy few weeks at Catching Lives. Activities have included a Matisse-inspired workshop with artist Zo Defferary, and Nervous Drawing with artist Alex Boican continues.
Clients enjoyed a falconry afternoon at Belmont House Gardens thanks to Joe’s Bows and also visited Luxmuralis Renaissance at Canterbury Cathedral as well as Zo Defferary’s exhibition at Margate’s Pie Factory. Volunteers, staff and clients also had a barbecue to celebrate the Root To Resistance garden project.
