Sebastian Tribe, of Terrapy
Sebastian Tribe of Terrapy

We're spotlighting some of the brilliant facilitators who contribute to our Arts and Activities programmes. Sebastian Tribe, founder of Terrapy, runs Terrarium workshops with us.

Tell us about the activity you offer at Catching Lives

I run terrarium workshops, teaching a method of gardening that doesn’t require private outdoor space, and can be done with waste materials. I aim to spark curiosity about the natural world and provide a sense of agency through horticulture.

How did you first hear about Catching Lives?

I worked with Catching Lives on collaborative projects with Rock Paper Scissors where I saw the impact the charity’s work was having on the lives of those experiencing housing insecurity.

Why did you want to get involved with Catching Lives?

Limitations on access to horticulture are heavily interwoven with challenges in access to housing and private outdoor space. This is a big focus for my organisation, and one which aligns closely with the mission at Catching Lives.

What are some joys you have experienced since starting with Catching Lives?

Seeing the fantastic talent and sense of achievement that emerges when opportunities to be creative and curious are given to those typically deprived of them.

What would you say to someone thinking about getting involved at Catching Lives?

It’s a superb way to support some of the most vulnerable members of the community here in Canterbury. The charity has a real impact on the quality of life of the people it serves.

Outside of Catching Lives, how do you like to spend your time?

Making terrariums and teaching others to do the same!

What is your line of work/ previous line of work?

I originally trained as a lawyer and spent several years working in financial institutions before starting my company, Terrapy. My team and I now run terrarium masterclasses for people from all walks of life at our public and private events across the South East.

What are your passions/interests?

I love art, though I can’t paint for toffee! In spare time I run a small not-for-profit gallery in Margate called Salon which focuses on cultivating and platforming regional talent.
