A lucky winner could get a room in their home redecorated for just £1 thanks to an innovative fundraiser for Catching Lives.

Painter and decorator Richard Taylor, of Taylor’s Decorators, has set up ‘A Room for £1’ competition on JustGiving where he is generously offering the prize.

Richard, who is based in Whitstable and covers east Kent, said: “My wife works for the local NHS which supports the homeless population in east Kent and as a couple it is something we are both passionate about. We have witnessed the rapidly growing amount of homeless people in Canterbury and recognise the importance of local shelters such as the one at Catching Lives; as well as the work of the staff in supporting the homeless population.

“In all honesty the idea just came to me one day whilst I was in the shower. We had talked about doing a competition for charity and I wanted to put my skills as a decorator to work as I really love helping people.”

Anyone who donates to Richard’s fundraiser will get one entry per £1 donated, so a donation of £5 will get five chances of winning.

Richard, who has been a painter and decorator for 25 years, added: “Please give as much or as little as you can to this worthwhile cause. There are no strings attached. I really am offering to paint a room for just a minimum donation of £1. Every penny will be going to Catching Lives.”

There will be a live draw on Taylor’s Decorators Facebook page on Saturday, December 14, to reveal the winner. Entrants must be located within east Kent and rooms must be no bigger than 11ft x 17ft. Paint must be provided by the winner.

Richard added: “I would just like to thank everyone for their support so far and thank Catching Lives for all they do to help our local homeless population.”
